Nope, that’s not a typo in the title — we were in D.C. this weekend for the Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear, hosted by John Stewart and Stephen Colbert. While that was definitely quite the event, while we were there we stayed with Colin’s aunt and uncle. We enjoyed a wonderful lunch with them and some other family members at Sunflower Vegetarian Restaurant – the Falls Church location.
Naturally, I had to take pictures first… and wow was I glad I did! It was delicious. Everyone was happy in a party of eight – including a four year old. We were the only vegans in the bunch but they were most definitely a veg-appreciating bunch of lovely omnivorous folk.
The remainder of the pictures can be seen on flickr – should be top ‘o the heap on the flickr feed in the right sidebar… or you can just click.
The food was overall solid and we lamented that though we have veggie and vegan restaurants in the area at home, none of them had a menu so expansive. We were also reassured that the five locals in the bunch, wee overly-vernacular’d one included, often enjoyed delicious meals there, so we were hoping we would be in for a treat. We were.
I’ll be honest — it’s nearly 1am, we took a red-eye in Friday for the rally and got even more exhausted watching the SF Giants beat the Texas Rangers in game 4 of the World Series on the flight (very cool to hear so many people on board cheering.) I’m going to make this short and say that I would LOVE to go back again and try some more dishes. If you’re in the area, check it out — they’re award winnin’ and shit. Or just damn good. Whichever you prefer.
Oh yeah – happy Vegan MoFo 2010!
